Fall Update 2021

Here’s a quick update about the mobile app. Yes, I’m still working on it.

We’ve had a busy few months finishing the kitchen in our house which has taken time from Buckets. Due to supply chain problems, we’ve done a lot more of the renovation ourselves than we had planned. For instance, I know that we have 2,600 shelf pin holes in our kitchen.

For iOS, all issues seem to be resolved except for this pesky problem:

To solve it, we’ll be building both Android and iOS mobile apps in the “cloud.” Once that work is done, expect to see an invite soon!

YNAB just increased their subscription price. You may may be looking at an influx of new users in the coming months.

Mike's comment is too funny. Just got the notification my YNAB price will be doubling. Going to be checking out this solution as an alternate. Having a mobile app would definitely push us to make the transition.

Yeah, I came here on recommendation of someone else to check this out. I’ve been using YNAB for years and have been on legacy pricing, so this is nearly a 100% increase for me. Making me consider alternatives and mobile support is very important.

Lmao - it looks like many others are interested in Buckets after YNAB got too comfortable charging longtime customers double they already pay.

Been keeping this on my radar, but now that YNAB has announced a price hike(nearly 100% increase for me too), I am starting to consider this as a serious alternative. Having a mobile app would be a strong pull factor.

I'm currently moving over from YNAB. The price increase is crazy, especially as a European who can't even use most of its features (e.g. automated transaction import). Can't wait for the mobile apps! An import function for past transactions from YNAB would be great, too.

Moving over after the YNAB price increase, what you've built is fantastic and I'm looking forward to using it as a replacement. You've managed to add every feature I need except for keeping track of upcoming transactions but I can use my calendar for that :) Great stuff

Another 10 year YNAB veteran here looking to give your app a try this month and see if it will work for me. Your blog reminds me of some of Jesse's early notes which were what attracted me to YNAB in the first place. Your priorities are definitely in order (family always comes first), and I hope a wave of new converts reward your efforts on this budgeting tool.

Another potential YNAB migrant here! :) Getting the notice this morning that my price will go up 2x from a company that I have supported for more than 10 years is just not something I am interested in at the most basic, philosophical level. I need to check out Buckets since it looks to be a basic tool that gets the job done which is what I use YNAB for anyway. I don't need all the splashy videos and such... just a basic budgeting solution that will track my accounts and "bucket" balances over time. If your Buckets app ever turns into a company, make sure you don't alienate your most loyal customers and fan base by raising their price 2x out of the blue one day!

Ynab for nearly 10+ years. They just doubled their price for an app that can't sync to any of my bank accounts (not that I prefer it) but for nearly $100 it is definitely not worth it. I am moving to buckets because it seems to have everything I already do on ynab, just not $100!

You have my money! YNAB taught me not to waste money on too many subscriptions. I literally don’t have a budget for the new subscription fee. This would fit perfectly for my budget!

While YNAB is only going up $15 a year for me I don't like how they're treating their legacy users and this was recommended on r/YNAB so plan to use it alongside YNAB this month to see if it's a good fit. Same! I WAS a $45/yr YNABer since 2016 and pulled the plug shortly after they announced the increase. In recent years I have had more and more trouble importing transactions and needing to re-authorize each time in YNAB. I've been using Buckets for a couple of weeks now and find importing .csv files from my banks to be a pretty simple and overall more reliable process than YNAB. It is really nice that when importing the transactions, it only recognizes new transactions and only imports those. Looking forward to the mobile app and becoming a Bucket-er!

Another now exYNABer here as an AU customer my sub more than doubled with the increase and I don't get all the bells and whistles. Anyway, I'm really liking what I'm seeing with Buckets, love the pricing based on loaves of bread, that's a brilliant idea! Looking forward to the mobile app.

Don't let the mobile app keep you from supporting buckets!! Honestly, I hardly ever used the mobile app from YNAB when I thought I would especially since I've gone to mainly CC spending and importing transactions. Sometimes less is more as I'm learning since moving on from YNAB 4 I'm learning to use the tools to make my budgeting more efficient. Also, I love the categorizing of CC transactions, way better than YNAB!

Hello, still on YNAB 4 and happy as long as it functions. Already found a replacement with Bucket once needed. :)
