Welcome on board!

There’s been a tremendous spike in interest with Buckets over the past few hours. I’ll reply to your emails and chats as soon as I can. A few things that might be helpful to newcomers:

You’re looking at a new website! It’s mostly like the old one, but easier to modify going forward. If you run into broken links or other problems, please email [email protected].
Many of you will be interested to know that I’m working on supporting importing from nYNAB next.
Buckets currently doesn’t support recurring transactions. Here’s the issue for that
I’m working on the mobile apps for iOS and Android. ~~Sign up here to be an early tester~~.
Yes, the trial is untimed for as long as you need to decide if it will work for you. Take the time to really test Buckets.
Yes, it’s $49.
When there’s eventually a version 2 of Buckets, there will be a small upgrade fee. And I mean small. When it comes to that point and you want to upgrade, if you feel like it isn’t a fair price, let me know. But Buckets isn’t even version 1 yet, so that’s not in the near plan.

Since this is a spot for YNAB-refugees.... I saw on the landing page that bank syncing is supported. Is there a list somewhere of supported banks? Couldn't find it in the FAQ.

Hi, i just found Buckets after Ynab price increase. I'm an international customer and I'm glad to see Buckets has translation support, besides the other nice features. The only thing that is holding me down is the lack of Android app for now, which for me is really important. Will follow this app closely, congrats on the awesome job on it!

YNAB refugees LOL. love it. new CEO dropping bombs on his own cities, what a time. I just finished reading the entire Guide. This place looks like my kind of town and I'm excited to start my new life here.

The only thing that keeps me from using Buckets is the lack of weekly targets. Are there any implementing this in the near feature?

I just discovered your product this morning and although missing some of what YNAB does, it does everything I need so far. I'm expecting to be sending $49 your way after a month or two of making sure. Will the mobile versions be standalone, or will they access data in a cloud share or something? When I first read about the rain feature, I liked it, but I misunderstood it. Through that though (if there are enough people that operate like me) I have an idea for another bucket type. The want/rain is ok if you are saving or if your bills are consistent. I'm a long time YNAB user - it helped me get out of debt and I'm pretty much in a budget maintenance mode. So, for my bills I like to budget for worst case scenario. If my largest electric bill is $200, that's what I budget. I also have a couple of irregular timed bills - garbage pickup gets paid every other month, water every third month. In all of these, I just budget the biggest bill I've ever had. That means for things like electric it's slightly over budgeted in the summer, but way over budgeted in the winter. Once paid, I just refill the bucket. So, if I have $200 budgeted in electric and my bill was $75 I just pay it and have $125 left over and add $75 back next paycheck so its always there. If I use the want/rain feature it would just keep piling on $200 a month. Having another bucket type that just gets refilled to the want level would be pretty awesome. So before I start hand budgeting I could hit the rain button and have it fill all those bill buckets back to their full level. It would also make the rain button a dual use automation button - would put the extra funds onto the recurring expense buckets and refill the irregular expense buckets. Nice product though. It definitely hits the sweet spot for me. Imports from any of my banks don't work through SimpleFin for some reason, they just hang and fail, but that's not your issue. Export to Quicken and Import seems to work, which is what I had to do in YNAB anyways because every month or two it would double or skip automatically imported transactions and make me waste time trying to figure out what happened. I'm excited to see what you do with this platform going forward.

Looking to move from YNAB 4 to Buckets. Already seems like I'll make the official move sooner than later but I'm running both budgets at the same time. Looking good! Can't wait for the phone apps. Drop a donation button in the program too! Let us buy you a coffee every now and then after purchasing a license.

I just want to throw my support and best wishes toward Buckets - I’m looking to leave YNAB (like so many others), and this looks like it could be a beautiful alternative. My sub is up next spring and I will absolutely be keeping my eye on Buckets. I genuinely hope you can catch the tidal wave of disgruntled bugeteers.

Hope all is well on your end, Matt. Just wanted to chime in and say that as a Ynab refugee, I'm super encouraged to see your level of commitment. Been spending the past couple of hours trying out the desktop app and am super pleased with what I'm seeing. I don't mind not having cloud syncing as local storage/syncing using Google Drive does the job for me. And bank importing tbh isn't a top priority as I use my credit cards for most things and prefer not having my bank activities be so openly visible. But ONE feature I'd love to have is just easier movement of budgeting/allocations from one bucket to another. Ynab mobile and desktop let us tap on the remaining balance left in a category, enter a dollar amount that want to move to another category, then press enter to initiate the move. Everything else is looking great so far. Down to wait as long as needed for the Android app as I totally get why companies develop for iOS first.

Bill: I just figured out that you can use the "Save X by depositing z/mo" bucket type for a "top-up" category. Just set the savings goal to the max amount you expect, and set the monthly deposit to the same amount. It will only "want" the difference between the bucket balance and the savings goal.

Mobile app and repeating transactions are the only things stopping me at this point. otherwise, it's appearing to be a great app so far. been playing with it for a week now.

Hello! Another YNAB refugee here. Buckets reminds me of earlier versions of YNAB (I go all the way back to the spreadsheet version of YNAB). I'm looking forward to giving Buckets a test drive. Thanks! PS. Looking forward to the Android app and nYNAB import capability.

Another YNAB refugee here. I think Buckets may be a really good option. A couple of things though .. Why is there no payee field? When I import transactions, it only has the memo field - which shows debit or credit. While helpful to have the transactions there, it would be much more helpful to have the payee names import as well. Speaking of importing transactions - There are three different accounts I like to import - checking and two credit cards. I imported checking transactions this morning with no issue, but then tried importing a credit cards transactions - they won't import. Am I correct in thinking you can only import transactions from one account/institution?

Tried buckets. Love it has everything that ynab has that I use with much more freedom. Bought within 3 days and use the SimpleFin. I'm looking forward to using the mobile version and would be willing to pay for it as well. I had been looking for a ynab alternative for several years and I found exactly what I wanted with the exception of no mobile version and some bugs with imports. Otherwise it imports more completely than ynab. I had been with ynab since before ynab 4.
