Update: Android is now in open beta. We’ve adjusted the links below.

I wanted to quickly announce that Buckets for Android is now up on Google Play in a beta! If you’d like to be added, sign up here.

Fair warning: this is my first time publishing something on Google Play or using their testing tracks, so I’m not sure how it works. I don’t know if you’ll get an email or if you have to visit the Buckets Google Play link on your own?

Next up

In other news, we’re almost done with the relay service mentioned in the last post which will make syncing budget data between devices much easier to set up.

I expect we’ll see another release of the desktop app before the end of the year which will mostly include bug fixes and possibly integration with the relay server (if it’s finished). Then, on to making it so we can update our budgets on mobile!

How’s it going?

People occasionally ask how Buckets is doing—because people understandably don’t want to invest in learning or using software that might disappear. There have been plenty of budgeting apps that have changed or vanished over the years. So I want to reaffirm that Buckets is a keep-going not a start-up. Progress is often slow, but it’s also steady. This year:

  • The desktop app saw 12 new versions with nearly 100 fixes and enhancements.
  • The iOS app was finally released for testing!
  • The Android app is in testing!

Perhaps most importantly, I still love working on Buckets! It’s not my full-time job, but when I do get time to work on it, I really like it.

Financially, we’re heading in the right direction and we thank you for it! Revenue grows every year (over 100% per year, on average over the last 4 years). I should mention that the price of a license might be going up. This is NOT a price hike announcement. If we do raise the price, we’ll give several month’s notice—don’t panic 😄 And if you’ve already purchased, your license is still valid.

By all means, try Buckets for as long as you need to decide if it works for you—we mean it—but when you’re ready to buy a license, know that we deeply appreciate it and that it contributes to the ongoing support and success of Buckets!

Happy Budgeting!
